Think of a doula as a pregnant mama’s new best friend.
While doulas are not medical professionals like midwives, and cannot complete medical tasks, doulas are experts in their fields of education and continuous support in all ways.
At Moss & Moon, I am a certified childbirth & postpartum professional and educator. Instead of completing medical tasks like a midwife can do, I recommend natural remedies, holistic comforts, and provide tips-and-tricks to help you be healthier and have a more successful pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.
-
Doulas are typically hired around the third trimester of a woman’s pregnancy.
Moss & Moon encourages you to reach out at any point in your pregnancy journey, so I can offer you whatever support you need in your birthing experience. The more time we have to build a trusting relationship, the more comfortable and supported you will feel by the time you are in labor.
-
Absolutely not!
Doulas are available to help not just the needs of the Mama, but also to give guidance to the partner so that they can best support the Mama and Baby too.
As a doula, it is not my desire, place, or goal to do anything short of supporting you AND your partner so you can both feel comfortable and secure as you embark on the journey of parenthood together.
-
Nope!
Doulas are well-trained and equipped to support mothers through whatever type of birth is best for her and the baby. Whether a traditional, medicated hospital birth is what you’re wanting, if you need to have a Cesarean birth, or if you choose a more holistic approach, like a non-medicated birth at a Birthing Center or at your home, doulas are here to support every choice you make.
At Moss & Moon, I have the training as a childbirth educator, certified doula, and certified VBAC doula to give any mother the support, care, and guidance she needs, regardless of what type of birth she will have.

During prenatal visits, we will meet at a location where you are the most comfortable, whether at your home or at a location where you are comfortable, like a coffee shop, over lunch, etc.
These visits are meant to give you and I more face-to-face time to get to know each other. It is during these prenatal visits that I can provide you with more education and information looking forward to birth and postpartum, so that you can feel the most informed, comfortable, and supported.
Moss & Moon typically creates a loose agenda to use during prenatal visits, which is based on the information given to me at the free initial consultation. Meeting you where you are on your birth journey during the initial consultation helps me to better prepare to give you the proper support that you need on your unique journey.

Postpartum visits are usually at your home, following your birth.
The purpose of these visits is to provide you with a sense of peace and a feeling of “community” after your birth. During postpartum appointments, you can discuss your birth, ask any questions you have about what happened during the birth, or get information you need about your new baby or the upcoming postpartum season you are entering into.
Postpartum appointments are often overlooked but vitally important parts of a new mother’s journey. Mental health check-ins, lactation support, and belly binding are just a few examples of the many ways that doulas can help support you and your new family postpartum.
-
Doulas are encouraged for every birth.
Regardless as to whether you’ve experienced the birthing process before or not, every labor is different. Doulas can offer invaluable support to you and your new baby, as well as can offer support and guidance to your other children in navigating the process of getting a new sibling.
-
While family & friends offer critical support during the birthing process, doulas come alongside them and not only offer the warmth and support of a friend, but also the education and experience of a childbirth professional.
At Moss & Moon, I am not here to displace any of your family or friends in giving you the community and help you need. I will come alongside you and provide you with the continuous education and emotional and physical support that I received my training and certification in.
-
It is my desire that every woman who wants or needs doula support can get it. Accessibility is often a huge issue, especially as prices continue to rise. The invaluable support that a doula provides should be available to every mother, regardless of her situation.
Please contact me if you have accessibility issues or are financially prevented from receiving doula support, and I will contact you and find what works best for you and your family.

Payment schedules fluctuate based on your due date and your individual needs.
